Racing with Chula Vista Yacht Club

CVYC sponsors six races or race series each season. The races range from very serious to slightly silly. Members of any recognized sailing organization are welcome to join us.

Lady Skipper Race

The season opener is held in mid-April. The major requirement for this race is that the yacht must be skippered and helmed by a female. There is no limit on number of crew.

Jack and Jill Race

This race is held in mid-May and crew is limited to two: one male and one female.

Commodore’s Cup

The competition for the Commodore’s Cup is sometimes a single race and sometimes a series of up to three races. It is held in early June.

Crew of Two Around the Coronados

We join with Point Loma Yacht Club to sponsor this offshore race. As the name of the race states, crew is limited to two, but a skipper can choose to race in the Open class and sail with additional crew members. It is held in late July or early August.

Race Your Home

This race is an opportunity for liveaboard sailors. All the “stuff” that you have on your boat counts in your favor. It is an easy downwind sail from Shelter Island to the dogleg of the Chula Vista Channel. Costumes and decorations are encouraged. Points are awarded for towing a dingy or actively using the barbeque and the Race Committee is amenable to “gifts”. It is held on the Saturday of Labor Day Weekend.

Cranberry Series

Like the Commodore’s Cup competition, this is sometimes a single race and sometimes a series. It is held on Thanksgiving weekend to give you a chance to work off the holiday meal.
